Why do you think suicide has increased?February 19, 2013
This week a friend asked me, “Why do you think suicide has increased, I never heard about it when I was in high school?” I started my explanation by saying that young people are facing pressures we didn’t have. They are being pulled so many directions by society and are rudderless. People of all ages need a track to follow and/or a rudder to keep them on course, but unfortunately, many today have neither. Do whatever feels good, seek pleasure, try this, try that; people are looking for joy and happiness in fun and things. This search only leads to them becoming lost, hurting, scared and hopeless. We need discipline in our lives and today discipline is a four letter word. From the foundation of our country the Bible has been our guide, today it no longer is. The Ten Commandments were written by God for a reason, a guide for us to follow. Today we cannot recite them in schools nor have them in public places.
I also talked about the breakdown of morals and the family, young people are caught in difficult situations, without the strength of a strong family unit and strong morals to help and protect them.
Today at church, Pastor Mike (estesparkchurch.org) brought my thoughts to conclusion in Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Christ is the fulfillment of all things!
Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Please keep your eyes on Jesus!
