Luke 22:39-48 - "Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There He told them, "Pray that you will not give in to temptation." He walked away, about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine." Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened Him. He prayed more fervently, and He was in such agony of spirit that His sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. At last He stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief. "Why are you sleeping?" He asked them. "Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation." But even as Jesus said this, a crowd approached, led by Judas, one of the twelve disciples. Judas walked over to Jesus to greet Him with a kiss. But Jesus said, "Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"RJ: Only Luke describes Jesus' sweat as drops of blood, interesting. Matthew 26: (17-18) "On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?" "As you go into the city," He told them, "you will see a certain man. Tell him, 'The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with My disciples at your house.'"(20) When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table with the Twelve. While they were eating, He said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray Me."(26-28) As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then He broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take this and eat it, for this is my body." And He took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, "Each of you drink from it, for this is My blood, which confirms the covenant between God and His people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Mark my words---I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in My Father's Kingdom."RJ: The Last Supper! And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them."RJ: Jesus isn't saying that we have to be a child in "age" to believe in Him. He is saying that we must have the trusting mind of a little child to believe in Him. As adults we think it has to be an intellectual experience or we think we have to perform to be received by Him. MacArthur Daily Bible: "What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?""In Mark 8:34, Jesus Christ makes it clear that no one who is unwilling to "deny himself" can legitimately claim to be a disciple. When He adds that one must "take up his cross," He reveals the extent of self-denial---to the point of death, if necessary. The extent of desperation on the part of the penitent sinner who is aware he can't save himself reaches the place where nothing is held back as He follows Jesus Christ (see Matt. 19:21-22)Jesus says that whoever "loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it" (vs.35). This paradoxical saying reveals an important spiritual truth: those who pursue a life of ease, comfort, and acceptance by the world will not find eternal life. On the other hand, those who give up their lives for the sake of Christ and the gospel will find it.To have all that the world has to offer yet not have Christ is to be eternally bankrupt. All the world's goods will not compensate for losing one's soul eternally (vs.36). It is the "soul," the real person, who will live forever in heaven or hell. Matthew 24:29-31 - "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, for one end of heaven to the other."RJ: Jesus is speaking to His disciples about the end times. Before these comments He tells the disciples that they will face death because of their witnessing for Him. If any man has difficulty, let him go to them." Then Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain. Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. The sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. Proverbs 2:1-5 -"My son, if you receive My words, and treasure My commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God."RJ: Solomon is telling us that we are to believe God's Word and be obedient to Him. Matthew 5:14-16 - "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basked, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."RJ; That finger is pointing at you and me! We are to be lights for Jesus in this evil world. Sadly, I don't think we are being bold enough or maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in. Matthew 5:11-12 - "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."MacArthur Daily Bible: (Matt. 5:1-12) "The word blessed literally means "happy, fortunate, blissful." Here it speaks of more than a surface emotion. Jesus was describing the divinely bestowed well-being that belongs only to the faithful. The worldly idea is that happiness is found in riches, merriment, abundance, leisure, and such things. The real truth is the very opposite. The Beatitudes give Jesus' description of the character of true faith."RJ: We are living in a time when we are experiencing false accusations toward Followers of Jesus Christ. Matthew 3:13-17 - "Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?"But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him.When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."RJ: A chance meeting, I think not. God directed Jesus to be baptized by John, thus His ministry started. This was a spectacular scene: The heavens opened up; The Spirit of God descending; God declaring "This is My beloved Son!" Matthew 3:1-3 - "In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" For this is He who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:"The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.'" (Isaiah 40:3)RJ: God is so amazing! He planned the birth of John the Baptist to Zachariah and Elizabeth who was a relative of Mary, mother of Jesus. Why? John would prepare the people spiritually for the entrance of Jesus, the Messiah, onto the scene. God doesn't miss anything, does He!?!Have a Blessed Saturday!#JohnTheBaptist#PrepareTheWay... Psalm 1:1-3 - "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit it its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper."RJ: Very wise counsel and a question we must ask ourselves: "Where have we planted ourselves?" Have we planted ourselves in the things of this world, or have we planted ourselves in the deep roots of the LORD? Are we listening to the swirling world around us, or are we listening to the LORD? Genesis 3:1-6 - "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'"Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."MacArthur Daily Bible: "The Fall refers to that moment in time when human beings first disobeyed God. Genesis 3 tells the painful episode. What Eve set in motion, Adam confirmed and completed by joining her. They sinned together. The willful decision of Adam and Eve created a state of rebellion between the creation and her Creator. The Bible makes it clear that the Fall brought sin into every subsequent person's life. (Romans 5:12) Our compacity to sin is inborn."RJ: The Fall... Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man."Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."RJ: More of the Creation Story(Fact, not fiction)! Genesis 1 - The Creation:Day 1: "Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light." God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.Day 2: "Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." And God called the firmament Heaven.Day 3: "Then God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear". And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas."Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth".Day 4: "Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.Day 5: "Then God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens."Day 6: "Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind."Then God said, "Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." So God created man in His OWN image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.Day 7: Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made."RJ: The Creation of God's Universe is remarkable, yes, difficult for our finite minds to comprehend. He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."And the one sitting on the throne said, "Look, I am making everything new!" And then He said to me, "Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true." They cannot be numbered! One Year Bible: "God's Word is the script for the movies of our lives. God has seen the beginning, our dreadful off-script improvisations, and how it ends. David was not confused about when our movie starts. God has seen every day of our lives before we were even born. How sad that someone knitted together by God in the womb would be destroyed before that life is birthed.
